King Abdul Aziz University on Saturday launched a campaign to collect surplus schoolbooks and paper as part of a recycling initiative, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The 10-day campaign covers 15 locations in Jeddah and aims at raising environmental awareness around conservation and waste use.
The continuation of the university’s recycling project follows on from the success achieved in previous years. It has attracted the participation of people in the Makkah region over five years, collecting and recycling more than 2,500 tons of waste paper.
“Don’t Throw It … Recycle It” was launched in 2013 in partnership between the Scientific Endowment at King Abdul Aziz University and Waste Collection & Recycling Co. Ltd, with the intention of spreading a culture of environmental protection, and awareness about the importance of destroying and recycling used books and paper in a safe, appropriate and environmentally friendly way.
